By Janina Aza Karpinska From the artist: Worked on a small found canvas in the street – picked up and transformed, just as we are by the Great Artist – God! Beginning with nothing – then adding a scrap of life – a woman who said 'Yes' to God, which led to a new life being born, and borne. I first heard about Christ's death being foreshadowed as a child in art history lessons, many years ago, and was struck by a kind of horror, that something so awful should be apprehended by someone so innocent. It obviously stuck with me. Beginnings are important and do often hold clues to later stages in life. But amidst the horror of reality – diamonds endure. Janina Aza Karpinska is a multi-disciplinary artist–poet from the south coast of England. Poetry informs her collage-making with an eye for the 'chime' of pattern, motif and colour; the rhythm and flow of line. Working quickly and intuitively, with an innate sense of order, she re-configures chaos and brokenness to make a new, cohesive whole as an act of creative redemption. Her work has appeared in Bath House Journal; Young Ravens Literary Review; Grim & Gilded; The Empty Mirror; 3 Elements Review; Heart of Flesh and Antler Velvet, among others.
Janina's other work on Foreshadow: Abide in Me, as I Abide in You (Art, August 2024) Herald Across the Divide (Art, September 2024)
