God, Tell Me What It Means

By E R Skulmoski

God,
tell me
what it means
when I see
a squirrel
climb down

a tree
and read
Psalm 63
on the same day
my heart
is silent

as I wait
for the marrow
of the trees
and the shadow
of the wind
to answer me

as birds flutter
above my head
I search for
invisible
fortresses
to cling to

but you
may very well
be sitting
on the rock
that is
in front

of me
as I wait
for your power
and glory
to walk
through me

so as squirrels
climb down
the tree
I remember
to see walls
tear down

and as I
press my mouth
on holy
ground,
I’d be empty
of my curses.

Am I delusional? or
is the burden
of proof
lighter
than I think
it is?
