Grievances

By Caroline Liberatore

Dear earth,
Dear souls,
Dear Lord,
I am sorry.

I am sorry
for each time
I think a cloud
is just another
cloud and a wren
is just another
wren.

I am sorry
for each time
I look at a screen
instead of your eyes
and think you
are just another
pair of arms and
legs.

I am sorry
for each time
I am indifferent
to Your repetitions
of dignifying
the earth and ourselves
and respond with
a vacant
amen.
